“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers”
Creating with the Corner Tiles Dies
We are going to change up Pattern #122 this week and give it a fall makeover. To accomplish this task I’m using the Jumbo Corner Tiles Die and the Corner Tiles Die sets. For a warm fall backdrop the Cocoa Grid paper will do the trick.
The original layout filled most of the squares with photos and a journal block in the very center. This time we’ll fill all the squares with color add a few photos and a center quote block for a refreshing fall look.
This project is a perfect place to use all your scraps or indulge with all your favorite fall papers. Additionally I’ve selected a favorite quote of mine that was part of the Photoplay Autumn Orchard Collection. A leaf print paper is used for matting the quote.
I began with a sketch of what I wanted to accomplish. I decided I wanted to begin with green and drop down to the bottom right and finish with a brown. I began by pulling lots of patterned papers to gather the colors I wanted and sorted and played around to get what I wanted. Then I began cutting what I needed. All the 2.125” squares of the pattern will be filled with two triangles cut with the Jumbo Corner Tiles Die in different colors/patterns.
The 1” squares of the outer edge will either be a 1” square or 2 triangle halves from the Corner Tiles Die that fit in the color scheme of the inside squares.
My center square quote is mounted on a pattern leaf paper that I cut to get the yellows towards the top and the reds to the bottom to fit into my rainbow pattern so that once mounted a narrow bit of color will show and blend with the rest of the page.
Now if you are someone like me that has all kinds of patterned papers that I would be happy to just slip into a page protector and save on its own you might be happy with this look that lets you see all your papers.
However, one of the things I love about fall is all the color in nature. I decided to look through all my old left over photos from previous layouts that for one reason or another I didn’t use. Usually I printed the photo the wrong size or too many to use. I got out my 1.75” square punch from EK Success to cut out sections to match the shades on the page and leave a nice border to show off the color and the papers. It’s the best of both worlds.
TIP: For placement I lined up the corners of my photo to the cut edge of the triangles to help me square things up.
So whether you are looking for a way to use up scraps, lots of favorite papers or a few wonderful fall photos consider trying this mostly squares pattern #122 to show them off. The Corner Tiles Dies will give you lots of color options for any season or occasion. Plus it makes a great piece of framed art for your wall!
